Valentine's Day was awesome.
Yesterday afternoon I snuck into Emi's room while she was in class, and placed a beautiful boquet of roses and dasies on her desk. I also hid in the corner, and wished her happy Valentine's day when she found the flowers. She really loved them, which of course made me really happy. We hung out in her room for the next couple of hours until I had to take a math quiz.
After the quiz I rushed home to clean myself up, and then rushed over to pick up Emi. We were late getting to the resturaunt, but I managed to convince them to hold our reservation, so it all worked okay. We ate at Something's Fishy, a Japanese resturaunt in the same vein as Benihanna's, where they cook the food right in front of you. Everything they made was amazingly delicious; I ate just about every bite from every course, including Miso, Salad, Shrimp, Veggies, and of course Steak.
Even better than the food, however, was the fact that Emi loved it. I guess she'd gone there before, and it is one of her favorite places to eat on State Street.
After dinner we got ice cream at Coldstone. I had french vanilla mixed with peanut butter, caramel, and chocolate. It was amazing.
When we got back to campus we rented a movie (A Knight's Tale) but we were both so tired we fell right asleep before we even had a chance to put it on.
Overall it was a spectacular day, and I'm thankful I had Emi to share it with. |

Yesterday was pretty awesome, overall.
In the morning I got out of bed and over to trailer 387-101 for my CS 20 midterm. The entire test was cake; I finished in fifteen minutes. I then went over to get some breakfast at Ortega, cause I was actually awake and not in class during breakfast hours. They have bagels! I ate many, with cream cheese.
After eating I meandered over to Engineering I for my math lecture, but I ended up sleeping through the entire thing. After class was over Zac told me that I had been snoring. Whoops.
After my nice nap I went back to Manzanita and did some email and showered. Then I got on the 'cycle and headed across campus to work. Although I'm peeved about using PHP instead of Perl, work is still going well overall.
I snuck off work half an hour early to take care of a couple of errands, including picking up a vase and roses for Emi. At 3 I made my way to San Nic, and wished Emi a happy birthday. She had already been visited by her TriDelta sisters who had brought champagne, and her mom had gifted her a marvelous cheesecake.
We quickly grabbed Heather and Wei out of the hall to come join us as we drank champagne and ate cheesecake. Of course, Emi only has one wine glass, so we all ended up sharing it. Heather, impatient as always, just drank it from the bottle. The party broke up after just an hour or so because both Heather and I had to get to class.
After Writing ended I went back over to San Nic, and dragged Heather to the bus stop where we met Emi. We took her to this very nice Italian place where I had the best food I've had since coming here: a medium-rare cheeseburger on fresh Italian sourdough.
We finally left the resturaunt around eleven, and ended up back at the UCen. Here we just lounged around and threw paper airplanes for about an hour, and then everyone went to sleep. |

Hanging out at Allie's house right now. We're not really doing much, just chilling out. I napped on the couch, and before we went to Fiesta. We also stopped by her grandparent's house; they're always so nice to me.
Tonight I'm probably going to go home and do my Calc homework for the first time in more than two months. Blech.
I don't really have anything good to go here, so ignore this entry. |

[Dec. 22nd, 2004|01:27 pm] |
Yesterday was one of the coolest days I've had in a long time.
I spent all morning tweaking out my level 21 gestalt gish for a D&D game that will probably never actually occur. Making gestalt characters at epic levels involves making a TON of decisions, and offers major opportunity for breaking things, and is therefore incredibly fun.
Anyways, after those shennanigans were done, WTPUTP came over to my house and we worked on our presentation for question one. We made some progress, but not as much as we could have. Kendall walked on my back, and it cracked pretty loudly. I was drinknig green tea out of a large glass mug when everyone showed up, and they all thought I was downing beer.
Anyways, after they left is when the true fun began. I showed up at Allie's house for the secret christmas party she and Greg were throwing for me. It turns out that they had bought me a fondue kit, so we had a fondue party. Because of my Canadian heritage, Greg also had purchased a bottle of Maple Syrup for me, so we started off by heating some of that, and made "French Toast" by dipping our bread into the syrup. This was followed up by some chocolate fondue.
This is when we started to get creative. We embarked on an epic quest to create taffey using only the fondue kit and ingredients Allie had in her kitchen. Aside from failing miserably, and making the entire house smell of vineager and cider, we did pretty well. I think. The end product was entirely un-edible, though.
I hung out at Allie's for a while after that, watching movies and having some kumuptar fun. When I was done there I headed over to Caitlin's house, and hung out for about two hours. I had to leave shortly after midnight, though, because she had to get up early this morning for work.
Anyways, I went home after Caitlin's, expecting to go to bed. I found Laura online, however, and it turns out that Olivia was over at the Garritano residence as well, so I had to head over to hang out with them. We all talked for a while, and it was way cool to see Olivia and Laura again. I would have liked to spend more time with them, but I got distracted by Jim's Star Wars Trivial Pursuit game, and I made him play against me. I won the game twice before he could win it once, but in general his questions were harder than mine. I think I am more the master of Star Wars trivia than he, but not to the extent that my dual victory suggests. I'm scared to see TJ play that game. |

My girlfriend is chewing on my shoulder.
This only serves to remind me of how hungry I am.
Brunch isn't for 38 more minutes.
Two bagels with extra cream cheese please. |

[Mar. 18th, 2004|09:30 am] |
In Biology right now; we're doing a lab related to the pull of water through a plant's xylem. Very exciting. Last night I got an AP Bio study guide thingy from the bookstore. I also took a nap there; the 4th nap in as many visits. The chairs are very comfortable.
I checked the sub computer this morning, it's still running perfectly. Apparently I am a little better at installing linux than I thought.
For the picnic today I brought cookies, the guacamole, and two huge blankets. I put the guac in Mr. Ladd's fridge, and he made fun of m for taking both AP Comp Civics and AP Gov even though I have a C in AP USH.
I just want to go home and play with the sub. |

[Mar. 17th, 2004|09:56 pm] |
Today was an awesome hacking day.
First, in CompSci, I have the network chat program working wonderfully. The packet broadcast works perfectly, now the only improvements left to make are GUI niceities, and formalizing a packet structure for the communications. I'm already dreaming about ways to make it PGP/GPG compatible and such, but I have to force myself to stay within the original specifications so my other projects don't suffer because of it.
After school we had a Robotics meeting, and Kevin brought the sub computer. I kind of ignored the rest of the meeting as I worked with the computer, figuring out the BIOS and the special interfaces. I had to leave early to give Brett a ride home, but I took the computer so I could look at it later.
Dinner with dad was pretty uneventful; when I came home I made the guacamole for the picnic tommorow. I'm also going to bring chocolate chip cookies, and blankets. Maybe something else too, if I think of anything.
Right now I'm working on the sub again, looking through some interesting documentation for this BIOS. I need to go look up "El Torito" booting, which apparently is some sort of standard for booting embedded systems from a CD drive. I was expecting the sub to have a standardish PC BIOS, but it appears as though it's actually a BIOS geared toward embedded systems. This means it will take me a little bit of time to get used to, but I suspect that it will be advantageous in the long run. |

Well, OpenWare has launched it's beta site, and I registered BFP on the site. The profile there is really atrocious, and doesn't do much except promise a website to come up by the end of the month. In fact, I think as soon as I post this I will go back and remove all details so no one is put off by how disorganized I am. Ugh!
Well, my "vacation" from programming the game lasted longer than I had anticipated, and I went for 6 long days without working on the game. I spent the middle of last week working on AUVAI in C, and then I actually started writing a Tetris clone in Java on Friday. I've spent about 70 minutes on it so far, and I'm timing myself to see how quickly I can finish it. I'm intentionally not thinking about the problems outside of when I'm actually coding, otherwise the race wouldn't really be significant. If I ever finish it I'll probably put it on my website for download; just for shits and giggles.
I'm also considering writing another project, to teach myself about programming Java network applications. It'd be a basic chat app of limited use; and it's function would be to allow conversation with anyone else on a LAN running the client. It will likely get used in a lobby program for BFP LAN games.
Mmm...I'm gonna go see if we have any German Rye bread left. I just had a huge salad (I'm trying to eat healthier; I want to live forever), but I'm still pretty hungry.
P.S. It was really hot today. I went to work for the first time in almost a month, and I actually had to turn on the AC when I was driving on the freeway. |

| Bleck |
[Mar. 4th, 2004|11:42 pm] |
Today was a lot of fun; although tonight is kinda blah.
Turned in class forms today; so my selections are final. Mr. Thiel made awesome guacamole for us today; and I watched him and learned the secret recipie. I'm going to try to replicate it for myself ASAP. Took a multiple choice in precalc today; sans calculator. I think I did pretty well on most of the questions, and I think I did a reasonable job guessing on the ones I didn't know. Chilled with Jim after school, and played Nethack.
I had a really good game going, I found a food store on the 2nd or 3rd level so I was set in terms of munchies from the getgo. I learned Charm Monster, and took a Centaur as a pet, and between his guardianship and a ring of regeneration, I was well on my way to glory. We got stopped by a Black Unicorn, however, and instead of tactfully dodging to let my HP regen, I charged and got slaughtered. I can't believe I threw the awesome game away because of that. I did claim the high score on my server, though, so Evan has something to try to beat.
I realized just a bit ago that I have a history study guide due tommorow; which I really don't want to do. Debating getting up early to do it, or trying to weasel out of going to class and taking time over the weekend. Essay in that class tommorow too; blah. |

| Anniversary |
[Feb. 28th, 2004|11:31 pm] |
Well, today Caitlin and I have been officially dating for an entire year. For those of you keeping track at home, thats a long time.
I woke up around 9:30, and tried to debug my game for about half an hour, still no luck. I'm having a problem where sometimes large tiles are overlapped by smaller tiles which I swear I'm setting to equal null. I suspect the issue has to do with Java threading, which I'm not doing explicitly but I think a lot of the GUI classes do implicitly. I'll research this more tommorow.
I actually picked up Caitlin around 12:30, and we went to the mall. We wandered around for a bit; Hot Topic has a really cool MegaMan shirt that I wanted to buy for either Jim or myself, but didn't. Caitlin took me into Victoria's Secret because she saw some cute underwear, but didn't end up buying anything. We also checked out a cute nightie thingie in Fredricks.
We then went looking around in jewlery stores. I had wanted to buy something for her on Thursday, and had dragged Shelby to the mall to help me pick something out for her, but I wussed out because I was afraid I would buy her something she wouldn't really like. Instead, I let her pick out something today, and I ended up getting her a really cute ring with tiny hearts on it, and a necklace with a blue topaz in it (her birthstone).
After the mall we went back to her place, and took a nap before dinner.
Dinner was wonderful. We ate at Armadillo Willies. Caitlin got some ribs, and I ordered a huge double cheeseburger, with quadrouple cheese. Also ate some really yummy fries, and corn muffins.
When we went home we watched Kill Bill on VHS; her uncle is a director, and had an Oscar screener. After the movie I drove back to Saratoga, where I am now. I'm half-heartedly trying to solve that bug in my code, but compiling is so slow on this system that its not going very well. I'm not sure why it takes so long, even to open the game. I'm going to have to try running the game on some lower-end machines, because if its that slow on a laptop thats just a few years I might need to start seriously worrying about speed issues.
Bang bang. |

Well, alright, I'm basically a big whiner.
Those three hours I spent last night were really about one hour, interspersed with snacking and TV watching. And all the code I lost I have now re-written, in about half the time it took me (actually) yesterday. Cause I didn't have to think about the algorithms and stuff all over.
Anyways, in a new whine, I'm pretty hungry right now. My dad is taking us out to dinner tonight, but he's in a meeting and won't be here until around 6, so we will probably get to eat around 6:30. *tummy rumbles and whimpers* |

| Lunch |
[Feb. 19th, 2004|12:39 pm] |
Yes, I am definitely the biggest dork in the world.
It is currently lunch period, and I'm in the CompSci classroom because I want to work on my game that badly. I spent my English period working on parts of the design document, and now that I finally have the chance to code, I'm wasting it writing here instead of programming.
I also get to look forward to doing my entire study guide tonight, as I barely made any progress at all yesterday.
Right now I'm quite hungry, as I haven't had anything to eat other than penguin mints all day. The periodic bursts of caffeine repress the hunger.
Yesterday, I spent 2.5 hours looking for a single bug in the server code. In the end, I just asked Mr. Hanson to find it, and he did in under five minutes. *sigh* This gives me renewed confidence in my ability as a programmer.
Alright, I'm really going to code now.
Late. |
