Basically a weekend... [Oct. 6th, 2005|03:49 pm]

Well, since my only class on Thursdays is CMPSC20 today is effectively a weekend, because there is absolutely no reason for me to attend those lectures.

Not much happened last night other than me getting all my homework assignments in on time, which continues to be source of amazement for me. I met up with Arina and Zac after my writing class ended, and we hung out together until about 11, when Zac excused himself to go home and sleep. Arina did my laundry for me again; it's nice to have someone who does it for me after I've had to do it on my own for the last four or so years. We watched TV for an hour or two in my lounge, then we walked back over to San Nic and ended up sitting out in the hall on the 8th floor discussing philosophy until four in the morning.

I haven't done anything productive today, although I did manage to make it to the cafeteria before they stopped serving lunch, and I took a shower sometime between waking up and taking my first nap of the day (I've had two already).

I also downloaded an emulater and both Chrono Trigger and Radical Dreamers (with the English fan translation). I'm not sure what I think of 'Dreamers right now, but now that I've played it a little I can certainly recognize that some of the music from Chrono Cross is taken directly from Radical Dreamers. I'm considering buying/obtaining a playstation so I can replay some classics when I'm bored here.

I've got a pretty long paper due on Monday for Writing, as well as another calculus assignment and two more programming projects to get done. Thankfully I've got almost a week to get that all done, so I feel fine not working on any of them today.

Allie called to say she recieved her birthday present, which was good cause I'd started to worry that I'd miss addressed it or something and that it would be lost forever. I also got a call from the Biology department. They want to interview me for an IT developer position. If that goes well I should be making $12 an hour writing web applications pretty soon.

I think I'm going to go play Radical Dreamers some more, and probably visit the beach and get dinner a little later. I'll probably hit up DP tonight.

Keep a mild groove on... [Sep. 29th, 2005|12:00 pm]

So I’m sitting in my CS20 lecture and we’ve still got 15 minutes left. I’ve spent most of this class editing my resume and writing cover letters for some of the 8 positions I’m applying for. I’m going to try to stop by the Career Services open house today to talk to Don Lubach about applying for jobs as well. This is, of course, assuming that I don’t get distracted and end up on the beach instead.

I haven’t updated this much since I’ve moved, but honestly I haven’t been doing much. I mean, I have been going to classes and socializing and chilling every day, but nothing incredibly noteworthy has happened.

Arina is going to visit her boyfriend in Irvine this weekend, so I’m going to need to figure out what I’m going to be doing. I didn’t really realize it, but I guess the only “good” friends that I’ve made here are Arina and now Zac. I have of course met hundreds of other people that I’m cool with, but I’m not exactly close with any of them. Maybe I’ll get an opportunity to change that this weekend.

In addition to meeting new people one thing I'm going to focus on this weekend is doing all the stuff I was supposed to do or have been doing a while ago. I'm going to finish applying for jobs, I'm going to do some homework (gasp!) for my classes, and I'm probably going to try to finish up that Magic auction I started ages ago. I'm also going to do some major research into studying abroad. I've actually looked into it quite a bit already, and I think that I'm going to be studying in Hong Kong fall semester next year.

Damn I've been keepin busy this weekend. Yesterday started with Arina and I taking the bus down to Santa Barbara where we hung out and shopped. We went into this really cool antique store, and a cool outdoor Indian place where they sold cool rugs and jewelery and stuff. Oh, and we also ate at Chipotle on State Street. I really do have to say that Freebirds is superior to Chipotle, now that I've been properly indoctrinated.

Anyways, after we got back we rented Wayne's World and ended up napping through the movie. It's a good film though; I haven't seen it in quite a while. Anyways, when the movie was done it was just about time to head over to the Sugarcult concert.

When we got there we met up with Michael. I didn't realize it at the time, but after I spoke with him for a while, he confided in me that he was truly the Archangel Michael is here on Earth as the Angel of Justice and Punishment. I spoke with Michael during the opening band and through the intermission, but when Sugarcult came on Arina and I went up into the crowd and Michael stayed back to tell some others about why he was here.

The concert was pretty damn awesome. I didn't realize it at the time, but Sugarcult is the band who plays that "I'm bouncin' off the walls again" song. Of course in retrospect I feel pretty dumb for not having known that, but whatever. Their other songs are also pretty good, and they also covered a Modern English song, which was pretty cool.

After the concert we took a quick break to run through some sprinklers, and then we set out for IV. Tonight we got into some parties right away. There weren't any cool live bands playing at the parties we went to, but one of them at least had a nice sound system and was playing Darude, so we took some time to dance.

One thing I'm coming to understand more and more about partying on DP is that they don't really make drinks here. Everything is distributed straight up. Last night I partook of Cobra, Jose Cuerbo, Captain Morgan, and some cheap vodka of which I never learned the name.

After we were done partying we decided to go for a walk on the beach. After we were only down there for like five or so minutes who do we encounter roaming the coast but Zac. He seems to be there just about every time we go to the beach. We joined him, and ended up walking about two miles further along the coast, so we were well away from school. Anyways, being the bright kids we are, we decided to go swimming at that point. To make a long story short we had a couple mile journey back to Manzanita in wet, cold clothes.

When we did get back here we found some guys sitting around with a soccer ball, so we joined them and had a little passing and monkey in the middle. Eventually we all got tired of that, so we headed over to San Nic. We watched part of Fight Club, but by this point we were all exhausted (it was close to 4 by now) so we all just crashed there.

Del Playa [Sep. 24th, 2005|11:10 am]

So last night I went partying on Del Playa for the first time. I'd of course walked up and down the street before, and seen all the chaos and partiage, but I'd never actually gone into one before.

The first party we went to was on the south side of the street, right above the cliffs. We walked back into the yard, and the first thing we saw was the band. They had their little stage set up, and were dressed in your typical Metallica-rocker type fashion, but they were actually playing really mellow Marley-esque music. We went up the stairs to the balcony and had a good laugh as we watched some other freshmen trying to operate the keg tap. Eventually, after much shens, we got out beers, and just stood on the balcony and watched the band and the ocean.

We wandered around there for a little bit longer, and did a tiny bit of dancing, before we headed back out onto DP. The next party we came too was also band-oriented. This band, called Picket Line, was actually playing from a trailer with a fold out stage, and filled with AV equipment. It was really cool. Oh, and the singers were actually standing on amps up on the roof of the trailer. In addition to playing some pretty decent music the band were throwing out free merchendise. I snagged a Picket Line t-shirt, which means I can go one more day without doing laundry.

At this point Arina (who has by now definately learned her lesson) was so sick of walking around DP in heels that we decided to grab some munchies at Freebirds, then head back to my place. We came back and hung out with Paul for a while, and then went into the lounge to watch some tv. We got a little That 70's show, and some Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

At this point we were getting pretty tired; cause we had both been missing sleep during the week because of those annoying classes. Arina just crashed in my room because her roomate's boyfriend was over for the night, and she didn't want to interrupt them. We had just switched off the lights and were going to go to bed when the phone rang.

I was super excited; finally I had a chance to spend more than three minutes on the phone with Allie. I practically ran into the lounge and answered. We talked for a little while, and then Allie decided to go to bed, so I came back and went to sleep too.

  • Watched said movie (Orange County!)

  • Went to the UCen and listened to a guy spin salsa and hip hop.

  • Sat on the roof of a large driftwood fort on Campus Point and just watched the moon over the ocean

  • Circiumnavigated the entire campus (we thought it was a shortcut!)

  • Went back to hang out in San Nic; met a girl from Pleasanton there!
